Digital Radiographs

Traditional x-rays are a thing of the past now that we have access to digital radiography. Not only is the procedure faster and safer (up to 80 percent less radiation than traditional x-rays), but it enables us to view images immediately. It is also easy to enhance images so that further detail is revealed. Digital x-rays also provide a better patient record as they are easy to email to specialists and insurance companies when necessary.

Cone Beam CT Scan

There are cases where traditional x-rays do not provide enough information for diagnosing and treating dental issues. This where the dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) comes into play. We typically use the cone beam CT scanner in situations in which a precise treatment plan calls for exact 3-D images of not only the dental structures but the nerves and tissues in the facial region. It also provides quite a bit more information in just one scan than a whole series of x-rays.

One of the most common uses of the dental cone beam CT scanner is when planning orthodontic treatment. It is also used for other complex needs, such as impacted teeth, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and dental implants.

Laser Gum Treatment

Lasers can be used safely and effectively to treat mild to severe gum disease. Laser gum therapy with diode lasers reduces periodontal pocket size and gum tissue inflammation that comes as a result of periodontal disease. It removes both the bacteria that cause gum disease as well as the tissue that has been damaged by the disease. Laser treatment provides immediately healthier gums for the patient because there are no scalpels or sutures. Consequently, healing time is quicker and patient discomfort is minimal.
